What have we been up to in the classroom? Here are a few activities that we have been doing.

Social emotional learning

Every morning, we check in using the Zones of Regulation. We have also been learning breathing, relaxation and visualization techniques using videos including the Go Noodle Flow series and Mme Mindset.

French

  • We have read stories about our class rule, Sois gentil, Be kind.
  • We wrote in our journals about how we can be kind.
  • Our focus this week is the sound é in bébé (long a is in cake).
  • We worked on printing skills on mini-whiteboards.

Math

  • Some numbers add up to 10. What might the numbers be? This open-ended question launched into ways to make ten, how to organize possible solutions, and thinking outside the box as one can add more than 2 numbers to make ten. Making ten is an important mental math skill that helps us add and subtract very large numbers.
  • We played Go Fish! In our version, you are looking for a match to add to your card to make ten.
  • We worked in our Cahier de calcul. Children will add and subtract at their own pace in this workbook throughout the year.
  • We explored the relationship between addition and subtraction by creating number families.

Make 10! 1+9, 2+8

Gym

  • In the gym, we work cooperatively with fun parachute games.
  • Outside, we have played games as a class and joined with the other grade 2 classes for games.

Art

  • Today, we started an art project inspired by the book Joyeux reveur. Children used watercolours and their imaginations to paint the sky. Tomorrow, children will draw themselves dreaming happy dreams, flying through the sky.
