April 29

May is almost here! Please read the post about McQueen Lake.

We need more DADS who can chaperone for our trip! Please contact me by Monday morning if you are a Dad able to volunteer at McQueen for 3 days.

On another note, Heritage Fair was a great success! Many students are anxiously awaiting evaluations for their projects- I have not marked them all yet, as I have the work of 58 students to assess, but I am getting close! Hopefully I will be able to get marks to students by the end of next week.

A few students are missing their process journals- you may want to check if your child is missing his/hers as it does affect their final mark on the project and can still be handed in.

Please be reminded that we have a field trip to the museum next Thursday. Some permission forms have not been handed in yet. I took Mme Dumas’ class to the museum, and it is an excellent workshop!

What we are working on in school:

  • Science- How rocks are formed and characteristics that we look for when distinguishing some rocks from others
  • Art- self-portrait/ mixed media project
  • Health & Career- substance abuse, and healthy alternatives to substance abuse *this topic combined is with our art
    • Also thanks to Constable Shelkie who visited the class!
  • Gym- Track and Field
  • English- Poetry

McQueen Lake – Initial Info

Here is some information to start getting organized for our grade 7 trip to McQueen Lake!

When

Wednesday, May 11th (leaving at 10:30am) to Friday, May 13th (back at school at 12 noon)

Chaperones

We will need 4 moms and 4 dads to join us for the duration of the trip. Please let us know no later than Monday morning if you would like to join us. Then we will we let you know as soon as possible after that if we will need you. As a chaperone, you will be responsible for up to 7 students in your cabin. If you decide to join us, we are inviting you to to our pre-trip orientation on Wednesday May 4 at 8:30. Your attendance is not mandatory, but it would help you to prepare.

Shoppers

Although we already have a menu, we would like to find volunteers who can go shopping for us. The shopping will be mostly done at Costco. It would be great to have one parent who could oversee and organize the shoppers.

Organizer

We would like to find a few parents who can organize the food. Once the shoppers have the food, it will need to be organized by meal, and packed into coolers. So, a parent will need to go around and find coolers. The food will need to be stored in coolers while we are there as well.  We also need parents to meet us at the end of the trip at noon on Friday to unpack everything and return the coolers to the owners.

Cost

Do not send money yet, but we expect the cost to be around $25

Packing

We will send a complete list sometime next week, but at this point, we know that each student will need a foamy/thermarest, a sleeping bag, a lunch for the first day, and some baking (12 to 24 items to share- peanut-free please!). Baking will cover part of our snacks.

*******If you know that your child will not be attending the trip, please let us know as soon as possible.********

Please contact me at kharmatuk@sd73.bc.ca if you can help in any of the above-mentioned ways.

Thank you!

Many students have been working hard on the Gala. It will be awesome! Remember that the Gala is happening on Thursday, April 14th from 6-8pm. 2. Posters for the front of your table or the wall

3. Think about what you will use for change (a box?). Also, plan to have a float.
