December 17

Today a link was emailed home to view your child in music at school this fall. You’ll get a glimpse of our classroom in the introduction as well. Enjoy!

Math was sent home today. We are working towards adding to 100 and have been working with tens and ones in 2-digit numbers. Students also did some “sapin” art, and wanted to bring their art home to decorate for the holidays.

In the hallway, our Happy Winter Penguins liven up the school!

Tomorrow is cozy sweater day, or wear red or green. Toonies are also being accepted for the food bank. I hope you have a wonderful two weeks off as a family, and I look forward to more learning in the New Year.

Here is a parting picture of our Lloyd George Elf…

December 10

This week:

French: Our focus is on the letters eau which make the long o sound. We are reading in groups and journal writing.

Math: We continue to develop fluency adding and subtracting to 20. We also continue to add to 100. We have been working on repeating and increasing patterns. A festive patterning sheet and working with coloured blocks are 2 examples of our work.

Science: We looked at the life cycle of many different animals including frogs, penguins, rats, ducks and cats.

Social Studies: We made connections to a First Nations legend about how Bison learned to respect other creatures. Mme Jules visited the class last week to make a penguin ornament with a medicine wheel on the back.

Art: We are finishing the final stages of our multi-media penguin project.

Next week, there are many opportunities to get into the festive spirit!

December is here!

Show and Tell

We have wrapped our Show and Tell sharing of nature’s diversity in BC.

We have begun Show and Tell Family. Please have your child bring a drawing, photo or object to add to their presentation. It is fun for children to share who is in their family:)

Stay tuned in January and February for another mini-research topic. Each child will present a city/town/community IN Canada but NOT IN BC. This will be a platform for exploring Canada’s diversity. If you have family that live elsewhere, you may want to ask them to send you a postcard or email photos. It can be fun for students to share a faraway place that they have a connection to. That being said, 15 presentations about Ontario towns isn’t very diverse. I would encourage some curious students to investigate a community in a northern Territory, a francophone community, or a First Nations community. If we can end up with at least one presentation from each province, that would be ideal:)

Math

We have started exploring patterns using shapes and colours. We also continue to add and subtract, working towards mastering adding and subtracting to 20, and building skills with adding and subtracting to 100.

Health & Art

We completed an art project that connected to our learning around emotions and how to manage them. Each child used some 3D paper techniques to create a face expressing an emotion.

We are also having a lot of fun now on a penguin art project. We read the story: Polo aime Bottine for inspiration about what our penguins might wear for fun!

French

Keep up the home reading! Our focus this week is on the sound au which makes the long o sound like Santa who says, “Ho ho ho!.” We continue to read in small groups in class, and will do a worksheet this week that will come home so you can hear a bit about the latest book your child has read with me.
