French

There are many resources for parents of French Immersion students through BC’s Southern Interior French Educator Network.

Fairy Tales Although the verb tenses are more difficult (passé simple), our students are familiar with fairy tales and would enjoy reading along or listening to these stories. Your child may also read independently, first, then reread with the soundtrack played in order to confirm pronunciation. Translation is available to help parents support.

The CBC has a French web site for children, radio-canada/jeunesse. Age-appropriate French children’s shows and games are on the site. There are also blogs that children can read, depending on how independently your child can read.

Translation web sites

I recommend the following web sites if you wish to translate a word or expression. They are more accurate than another popular site, as words are in context. There is also a speaker icon so that you can hear the word.
