May/June Show and Tell

Hi, it sounds like with the upcoming free choice of Show and Tell topics, some students would like to bring pets to school. Some students are allergic to animals. So…

  1. If your child is allergic to animals, can you please email me to let me know if your child could watch an outdoor Show and Tell from afar and not touch the animal?
  2. If your child would like to bring an animal to school, please connect with me in advance. Also, an adult would need to escort the animal to and from school.

The May calendar WAS sent home. It is lavender coloured. Please be sure to check your child’s agenda or school bag if you did not receive one. On the back, the following is included:

May & June Show and Tell Fun! Montre et raconte

For our final Show and Tells before the summer, students have free choice! Students may share any topic they wish. The main goal is to express ideas in detail, in French.

Ideas:

  • A personal experience
  • A favourite item from home
  • Spring activities
  • Summer plans
  • Someone special
  • Something  you love!

Egg Drop

Yes, the big event, the Egg Drop was held this afternoon! Our class’ contraption was excellent. M. Nico dropped ours off of the school roof, and our egg DID NOT break! Students in our class aimed to design a contraption that would fall slowly to the ground, so that the egg would have as gentle a landing as possible. Seeing our contraption in flight, we succeeded. With the wind catching our device, M.Nico had a hard time getting the contraption to fall towards the ground. In fact, when it began sailing through the air, it caught the wind and went for a ride around the corner and across a fence, quite a sight to see. Congratulations to the students for their ideas, their research, their testing of theories, and their collaboration. Bravo!

Math- Good Questions

Last week in math students were presented with a challenge:

3? + 1? = ?2

Students demonstrated their understanding of 2-digit plus 2-digit addition in order to come up with solutions. Working together, students came up with 30+12, 32+10, and 31+11. After that many were stumped. Children persevered and with that came the joy of success when more and more possible solutions were discovered. As a teacher, it was a pleasure to see smiles reflect the figurative lightbulbs that illuminated in the minds of so many students. Finally, one student thought she had found all the solutions possible, and we organized our answers on the board to see if she was correct.

Our challenge and our solution!
