Halloween

On Halloween, children should come to school already in their full costumes if they wish to dress up. There will be a parade in the school at 9am to show them off!

Between recess and lunch, grade 7 students have organized some games for us to play in the gym! There will not be a primary dance this year.

If anyone would like to send in festive food for Halloween, we can enjoy it after lunch. Please try to send in healthy festive food so that children feel good for Halloween night! If you are in the school, have a look at our Halloween art and Halloween words in the hallway outside of our room:)

Happy Halloween!

October 19

It was great to talk with so many parents yesterday! In class this week we:

  • Started Halloween art projects
  • Began writing Halloween stories
  • Learned about the Blackfoot Indian Nation
  • Read a Blackfoot legend about a father, his son, and hunting beaver

Coming up…

  • PD Day tomorrow where I will attend a workshop about Project Based Learning
  • Monday- Drop Everything And Read!
  • Home Reading- as many students are arriving in Saskatchewan, we will learn more about the landscape in Saskatchewan and about aboriginal culture in the area
  • Photo orders are in! I will be handing out student photo orders on Monday so keep your eyes open for those.
  • Dance! A dance specialist will be teaching the students during gym blocks next week.

October 16

If you wish to schedule a parent-teacher interview and haven’t already, please contact me. Wednesday, Oct. 18 school will be dismissed at 12:30 to accommodate interviews. Students will be eating snack at school, but no lunch.

In class, we have been working with the sounds oi as in oiseau and ou as in hibou. We have added new tools to our work with words, such as Wikki Stix and drawing boards. In math, we have continued to focus on adding and subtracting to 20, with many opportunities to use numbers bigger than 20 and for students to challenge themselves.

Student Show and Tells have been teaching us about what we find in nature in BC. In science, we have been learning about the life cycle of the salmon. In social studies, we have been learning about First Nations groups from BC and Alberta. In art, we have made artwork for a fundraiser that the school PAC organizes where you will be able to purchase art cards before Christmas if you wish. In the meantime, we are reading and writing about Halloween!

October 3

We are into our second month of school. Home reading is underway and students have book bins at school that are used for our Daily 5 work in French. Our October Show & Tell has begun, a chance for students to share information about our province’s nature. As a class, we are building our understanding of our physical environment and of culture. After each Show & Tell, we add each student’s topic to our own map of BC, gathering our knowledge in a visual way.

Our own BC class map.

This week our focus is the sound in as in the words lapin and dindon (turkey).

We have also been reading some fun turkey stories and created our own turkey artwork in the hall.

Stay tuned for information regarding parent-teacher interviews so you can come see our classroom for yourself! In the meantime, Happy Thanksgiving.
