January 22

I hope everyone is feeling back in the swing after Winter Vacation! This January, we are building on what we have learned this autumn, as well as studying new themes. In language arts, we are studying fairy tales and in science we are studying matter.  We are including more technology in our learning this term, using a French App on tablets to practice words and spelling, and building coding skills in the computer lab. Grade three students have added English books to their home reading programs, and we are learning floor hockey skills in gym. A reminder that students need indoor shoes daily!

Science

We are studying CHANGE, and in particular, the physical and chemical changes of matter. How many ways can we change a piece of paper? Can we reverse the change? We have reviewed the states of solids, liquids and gases, and learned about how molecules move.

We will be visiting the Big Little Science Centre to do some labs on the topic on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 6th.

Back by popular demand will be a Show & Tell: Science Experiment! Some students did science experiments for Show and Tell in grade one and two. The students remember the experiments, and love them! Each student can do a SIMPLE science experiment at home where a CHANGE is observed. Then, the student can either do a demonstration in front of the class, bring in the results to share, or bring in photos or other visuals to share what he/she observed and learned. We will be sharing these in February and in March. Look for your child’s day on the calendar!

Students demonstrate how molecules are organized and move in solids, liquids and gases.
