Bienvenue à l’école!

Welcome Back

Welcome back to school! Welcome to our classroom blog. It’s time to start a great year in grade 2 and 3!

Me & My Blog

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Madame Harmatuk, and I have taught French Immersion for over 15 years. Ten of those were teaching grade 5 in West Vancouver. Since then, I’ve been teaching in various roles here in Kamloops, including grade one for most of the year at Lloyd George the year before last, and French and Fine Arts at David Thompson Elementary last year. Archived items on this blog and the current tabs have resources and information pertaining to former jobs. The purposes of the blog are to share information with families and to store on-line links and resources.  I am excited to return to LGES!

The Year Ahead

Once the year gets rolling, we will introduce Show & Tell and a Home Reading Program. Students will be using agendas. For grade 3 students, other staff will deliver an English program outside the classroom so that the grade twos can maintain a consistent French environment.

What to Bring to School

Water bottle (many students benefit from a sport or straw spout to chew or suck on as a way to self-regulate)

Healthy snacks and lunch (no junk food please)

Active footwear (students should wear running shoes daily as we exercise on non-PE days as well!)

Pencil Case (if students wish, they may bring a small fun pencil case that fits inside their desk- other supplies will be provided)

A positive attitude toward learning and French (of course!)

Donations

Our class is short on games and activities that could be fun during indoor recess. If you have any of the following in good condition without missing pieces and you have the need to purge we are looking for:

Connect 4, Trouble, Battleship, playing cards, age appropriate puzzles, Lego.

Also, if anyone sees a deal on a building toy similar to Lego called Plus Plus or on 10 seat cushions we could use for calendar time, please let me know. I would love to have these items in the class, but our budget is limited.
