Happy New Year! We are starting many new units this units this January.

French

  • We are learning the genre of fairy tales.
  • This week, we are exploring traditional fairy tales.
  • Later in the unit, we will challenge traditional stereotypes and read modern versions and different cultural versions of fairy tales, leading up to being the authors of our own fairy tales before Spring Break!

Drama

  • We are reading and performing fairy tales for classmates.
  • This week children are choosing their roles.
  • Children may prepare homemade costumes for their roles and prepare next week-end for performances next week. (Please do not purchase anything! Choose brown clothes for a rabbit, cut out ears and put on a hairband, do some crafting…)

Math

  • We are wrapping up our measurement unit as we continue to measure our amaryllis which is currently 55 cm tall and hasn’t bloomed yet!
  • We will be making math monsters for art, then measuring its body parts.
  • We are working with adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers.

Social Studies

  • We are learning about Ontario.
  • We learned about Ottawa and the Parliament buildings.
  • We heard the Algonquin legend of how Niagara Falls was created.

Physical & Health Education

  • We have begun a badminton unit.
  • In health, we learned why it is important to exercise and rest.

Coming up…

  • In Science, we will begin a unit about matter.
  • The morning of Tuesday, Jan.23 we will dance with “Jess Dance” from Vancouver.
  • On Thursday, Jan.26 we will be skating at Memorial Arena. Only those with a completed criminal record check can volunteer and attend. Please advise me IN ADVANCE so that I can verify that the office has received your criminal record check.
