November 28

We are having lots of fun this week learning at school!

French

Our focus is on the letter which follows the same pattern as the letter c.

The g is soft when followed by an e, i or y (similar to the sound j) and hard when followed by an a, o or u ( like g in the English word got). We have also been noticing the letters gn together make their own sound like ny (like y in yes).

  gn makes the sound ny

Different sounds that the letter c can make in French.

Math

Children are continuing to add coins up to 2 dollars. After focussing on adding nickels and dimes, we have learned to use different coins together including 1, 5, 10 and 25 cent coins as well as loonies and toonies.

Different ways to use coins to make 2$.

Salmon Activity

We welcomed Trudi Nielson into the classroom to teach us about the role  of salmon in local Aboriginal culture. Children began art projects inspired by Aboriginal artists. Then children used a real salmon to create salmon prints. Finally students watched a salmon dissection and were invited to touch the salmon and its organs afterwards.

Step 1: Painting a salmon.

Step 2: “Massaging” the salmon.

Step 3: The salmon Print!

Creating our salmon art inspired by Aboriginal artists.

Dissecting a female salmon. Can you identify the internal organs?

Friday PJ and Board Game Day!

Along with Mme Van Heerden’s grade 3 class, children are welcome to wear pyjamas and bring a stuffie on Friday. Children may also bring a board game from home if they wish to share with classmates. We also have board games and activities at school. Please do not send electronic games or toys to school. Examples of appropriate games would be card games, Twister, Monopoly, Exploding Kittens, Trouble, Battleship, etc.
